It is the augmentation, lifting, correction of asymmetry and aesthetically ideal appearance of the breast in patients with underdeveloped breast tissue, postpartum sagging or asymmetrical. The prosthesis/implant used in breast augmentation is generally a medical silicone-containing material compatible with the body.
In the preoperative evaluation, breast ultrasound is performed under the age of 40, and breast ultrasound and mammography examinations are performed over the age of 40, and surgery is performed after it is seen that the breast is medically healthy. At this stage, if there is a condition in the breast that would prevent the operation, the patient is evaluated together with a general surgeon about breast surgery and a decision is made.
After the preoperative examinations, the desired breast size, type of prosthesis and the placement of the prosthesis are decided together with the patient.
Breast implants can be placed under the pectoral muscle just below the breast, under or above the membrane covering this muscle. Since it is generally undesirable to notice the prosthesis in today’s world where natural appearance is more prominent, placement under the muscle gives better results, especially in patients with almost no breast tissue.
Breast prostheses are available in two forms: anatomical (drop) and round. Although drop prostheses have been used more frequently in recent years, they carry the risk of rotation and secondary correction, but they provide a near-natural appearance in the décolleté. Round prostheses do not carry the risk of rotation, but the décolleté appears fuller.
The surgical incision is made in the nipple, inframammary groove and armpit hair line.
Both the prosthesis used, the incision site and the placement of the prosthesis are planned together with the patient during the preoperative evaluation in accordance with the patient’s expectations.
The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 1-1.5 hours.
It is possible to be discharged at 6 hours after surgery, but hospitalization on the day of surgery is usually preferred depending on the patient’s request.
After discharge, oral antibiotic and painkiller treatment is continued for 5-7 days.
In the first 3 months after surgery, the breasts appear fuller due to edema, and it takes up to 6 months for the breast to regain its expected shape due to the decrease in edema and the effect of gravity.
A special bra should be worn for 6-8 weeks after surgery.
Work can be started 2 days after the surgery, but the time the patient can feel comfortable varies between 5-7 days.
There is no problem between breast augmentation and breastfeeding and the prosthesis used does not prevent breastfeeding.
